To build a city once again – this is the only project in Poland of such a scale and breadth. Great challenge, to reconcile precious inspirations coming from the history of Łódź with the creation of the NEW. Heroic courage of a sculptress Katarzyna Kobro, whose name the Market of the New Centre of Łódź will bear, patronizes it. Artistic look, originality, authenticity, revelatory character of her work are impossible to falsify, the same as the true spirit of the city. In designing new Łódź and its elements, which we will discuss in the following issues of „EC1 ARTTRACTION RAILWAY JOURNAL”, the most important is to seek ways to build a community. The New Centre’s heart will be the Special Art Zone – a place radiating with energy, attraction for Łódź’s citizens and tourists – adjoining an underground railway station. Thanks to art, Łódź will change its face: not only its image but also character and functions. Like industry in the past, culture will become a fly-wheel of city’s development today.

„ EC1 ARTTRACTION RAILWAY JOURNAL” is a magazine for the time of great general countdown to which we invite all Łódź’s citizens.  We are going to write a chronicle of the awaited continuation, beginning with a three-year prologue filled with work already done, that is what happened in the sphere of idea, plans, projects, accords, agreements and resolutions. This is the time of great possibilities, the time of questions about the future shape of Łódź. For this reason we count down as the time is counted down to the beginning of new millennium or the launch of a spaceship, that is from the biggest number to the smallest. To the point, when the operation on an open city begins. From 365 to zero. To the day, on which the first spade is put in order to build the New Centre of Łódź.
