We know the work schedule. The station will be ready by 27 February 2015!

The official website and an outline of the work schedule – these are the latest news concerning the Łódź Fabryczna station. If the contractor meets the deadlines, the station will welcome its first passengers in a little more than three years.

Torpol, the contractor for the station’s conversion, revealed the work schedule and the preliminary concept of the investment to the city’s authorities. The completion of the final concept is planned for 31 January. The development of the construction design will take place from 1 February until 16 November 2012, and the development of the detailed design is planned for the time frame between 24 February 2012 and 18 November 2014. Construction works at the station, as well as the tests and technical acceptance, are to be completed by 27 February 2015. The works at the dig site will launch on 13 July 2012 and will last until 26 August 2014. It is also around that time that the tram line along Składowa and Nowowęglowa streets will be completed. The completion of the eastern and western ends of the station, including the connection for pedestrian and motor traffic, is planned for the end of October 2014, while November 2014 should mark the completion of two access roads: Składowa and Nowowęglowa streets, situated between Kilińskiego street and the planned Nowotargowa street.

There is more good news related to the construction of the railway station. An official website was launched in order to keep Łódź citizens up-to-date with regards to the investment and the progress of the works. The website was created by Makolab S.A. for the symbolic sum of 1 PLN. Visitors can expect a wide variety of information from the construction site, as well as photos and video materials.

The station itself is still being dismantled, which does not require a building permit. About 6 km of railway tracks and 11 km of traction have already been removed between Łódź Fabryczna and the Łódź Widzew station. Geotechnical studies are also underway. The first results of the bores indicate that the ground water level is 25 m, but pressure can cause water to rise up to 11 m below ground level, which makes construction work much more difficult. The construction technology can be selected after the publication of the final report of the geological studies, which should take place in May.

New Centre of Łódź and Kobro Square

The New Centre of Łódź is a pioneer operation on a living city, both in respect of matter and idea. The concept of spatial development for this area was prepared by a Luxemburg urban planner, Rob Krier, in 2007. The starting point for the entire project is the idea to create a high speed railway line under a city. At the same time, the New Center of Łódź will be a place which will define the character of Łódź as a city of culture and art for a long time.
