The Ministry of Infrastructure revealed that the Łódź Fabryczna multimodal hub could be listed as one of the priority projects under the ‘Infrastructure and Environment’ Operational Programme. Therefore, the chances of obtaining a PLN 225 million funding from the EU are growing.

Without any support from the European Union, the construction of the multimodal station would certainly be delayed. Doubts concerning the funding appeared at the end of July, when rumours appeared that Łódź might have to compete for the status of a priority investment, i.e. for the EU money, with the Warsaw metro. The Ministry of Infrastructure officially denied this information and confirmed that the Łódź and Warsaw projects are not mutually exclusive.

Priority investments need not participate in a competition and the funding is granted automatically. Whether or not the Łódź’s project will be officially listed as a key investment will be known in September. The construction of the intermodal hub is planned to include, among other things, a tram route along the north facade of the station, a redeveloped tram route in the Kilińskiego street, urban and regional transport bus stops as well as car parks and a system of descents and roads leading to the station. All of this on three levels under the ground.
