| From the centre of Łódź to the edge of the conurbation in just 30 minutes – the Łódź Conurbation Railway project is ready to start |
|
On 29 June, the letter of intent for cooperation on the Łódź Conurbation Railway was signed by the representatives of 12 local self-governments from the Łódzkie Voivodship: Głowno, Kutno, Pabianice, Ozorków, Stryków, Łowicz, Zduńska Wola, Łęczyca, Zgierz, Łask and Koluszki. The investment is scheduled for 2011-2013. The main objective is to purchase new railcars, however, the investment also includes modernisation of the train stations which will become new stops on the Łódź Conurbation Railway routes and construction of parking lots, which will encourage drivers to use trains instead. The cost of implementing the project is 72 million euro, half of which will be financed from the EU funding. The remaining amount will be covered by the voivodeship and the carrier. According to the simulations by the voivodship, the investment cost will be returned within 12 years. The local self-government will only participate in the running costs of the railway.

New Centre of Łódź and Kobro Square
The New Centre of Łódź is a pioneer operation on a living city, both in respect of matter and idea. The concept of spatial development for this area was prepared by a Luxemburg urban planner, Rob Krier, in 2007. The starting point for the entire project is the idea to create a high speed railway line under a city. At the same time, the New Center of Łódź will be a place which will define the character of Łódź as a city of culture and art for a long time.

The coming construction of the High Speed Railway may spur the development of Łódź. The city will finally be well connected with the rest of the country and Europe. The Łódź Conurbation Railway will help the entire region benefit from this, as it will facilitate travelling from Łódź to the main cities within a 50 km radius.
