Reach Warsaw faster via Rogów viaduct in 2012

Subsequent procedures are being put in motion. Owing to them, a train trip from Łódź to Warsaw will last only 65 minutes in 2012. PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. company has opened a tender procedure for developing project documentation and construction of a two-level intersection between National Road No. 72 Rawa Mazowiecka – Łódź and Warsaw – Katowice railway at the town of Rogów. Tender offers will commence on 10 August.

The investment shall be carried out as part of the ‘Modernisation of Warsaw – Łódź Railway Line, Stage 2, LOT C – the remaining project works. A contractor shall be tasked with the preparation of project documentation, including: preparation of an application for a decision concerning localisation, project preparation of viaduct road construction in place where currently a secured railroad crossing is placed; viaduct road infrastructure and emergency detour construction. The contractor will also be obliged to obtain a construction permit, prepare construction projects as well as prepare a permanent traffic management project referring to the viaduct, a temporary traffic management project to be used during the construction works and prepare post-construction documentation. The contractor shall have to fit in a deadline, which is 23 months, counted from the signing of the contract.

Construction of viaduct will benefit not only railway passengers but also drivers travelling on the National Road No. 72, who often had to wait at the railway crossing in Rogów.

The Łódź – Warsaw railway line is being gradually adapted to higher standards. Modernisation of an entire route started in 2006. Stage 1 involved the renovation of Skierniewice – Łódź Widzew part of the route, which shortened travel time between Łódź and Warsaw to 84 minutes. Stage 2 was divided into lots. Lot A involves modernisation of a 58-kilometre railway part between Warsaw Zachodnia Station and Skierniewice (Miedniewice), the contract on which was signed on 26 May between PKP PLK S.A. and a consortium of companies: Przedsiębiorstwo Napraw Infrastruktury sp. z o.o., PKP Energetyka S.A. and Pomorskie Przedsiębiorstwo Mechaniczno-Torowe sp. z o.o. The contract is valued at PLN 870 million net. This part of the renovation is most desired by Łódź citizens. The first stage of the tender procedures is still in progress. It is to reveal the contractor for the project and construction of an underground Łódź Fabryczna Railway Station. The decision to go further with the investment has been voiced by 12 consortiums. Investment realisation should start at the beginning of 2010 and last 4 years.

As a part of Lot C, apart from the viaduct in Rogów, the Regional Control Centre will be built in Skierniewice. The entire renovation of the Łódź-Warsaw railway line will be financed from the 2007 – 2013 Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme. It will allow to shorten travel time between Łódź and Warsaw to 65 minutes, which will contribute to the increase of comfort and safety as well as to decrease the influence the railway exerts on the natural environment.

New Centre of Łódź and Kobro Square

The New Centre of Łódź is a pioneer operation on a living city, both in respect of matter and idea. The concept of spatial development for this area was prepared by a Luxemburg urban planner, Rob Krier, in 2007. The starting point for the entire project is the idea to create a high speed railway line under a city. At the same time, the New Center of Łódź will be a place which will define the character of Łódź as a city of culture and art for a long time.
