New Centre of Łódź and Kobro Square
The New Centre of Łódź is a pioneer operation on a living city, both in respect of matter and idea. The concept of spatial development for this area was prepared by a Luxemburg urban planner, Rob Krier, in 2007. The starting point for the entire project is the idea to create a high speed railway line under a city. At the same time, the New Center of Łódź will be a place which will define the character of Łódź as a city of culture and art for a long time.

The Łódź railway junction becomes more and more modern! The project which was announced some time ago, i.e. rebuilding the Łódź Widzew station platforms, has already commenced and is to be completed in December 2014. The PKP PLK company has also awarded the contract on restoration of the second railway track between Łódź Widzew and Łódź Chojny stations. This investment project will streamline the train traffic on the ring railway line.
Since 27 March, the biggest investment project in the modern history of Łódź, i.e. the construction of the underground Łódź Fabryczna station, may be viewed live from every corner of the world by means of an Internet camera installed on the Textilimpex high-rise building at Traugutta Street. Unfortunately, so far the image has been disappointing due to a large distance from the construction site, very low resolution and the fact that the image is refreshed every minute, which does not satisfy the Internauts. However, Hanna Zdanowska, the Mayor of Łódź, has announced that a better preview version will soon be activated.
The area around the Łódź Fabryczna station becomes increasingly vacant. One after the other, the characteristic elements of the landscape disappear, making room for the largest investment in this part of Europe.
Even though the first works have already started several weeks ago, the official beginning of the 1st stage in the development of the Łódź Agglomeration Railway took place on March 8th. Meanwhile, the marshal of the voivodeship revealed excellent news concerning the cross-city tunnel: it seems most likely that a City Centre station will be constructed underneath Łódź after all.
On his blog, independent railway columnist Robert Wyszyński posted a review of the facts and myths appearing in the news concerning the HSR project. It is difficult to understand why minister Nowak defends his idea of suspending the construction of the “Y” line with such stubbornness.
